Spring is finally here to stay at the winery (we hope), and our April lineup is sure to be a bonus to the melting snow and sunshine. To start the month off right, British blues master James Hunter Six will be here for a two-night stay with Paul Cebar Tomorrow Sound 4.03 & 4.04. Davina and the Vagabonds will finish out the first weekend of April with their show on 4.05. The soulful Twin Cities natives always bring good fun and excellent music, like this performance from the Dakota Jazz Club in Minneapolis.

Legendary jazz vocalist Kurt Elling will be here for three shows 4.12 & 13 to share his world renowned baritone covering Sinatra tunes The blue-eyed Gibson Brothers will be here to share their tunes 04.15. To round out the week, two exciting events will be at the Winery partnered with CIMMFest. The first, on 4.18 is an evening with Spike Lee, full of movies, music and wine. The evening will feature Lee’s work, with each film specially paired with a wine to sip while viewing. The second event of the weekend, on 4.19 will be spent with Todd Snider and Rorey Carell.

Rounding out the month we have a ton of great shows! First up is a show from actor John Waters on 4.22, a birthday show complete with meet & greet opportunities before the show. Also be sure to check out the “Something to Wine About” show on 4.25. The comedy show from Laurie Forster pairs fun and laughter with another wine, quite the combo.

There is always plenty to do outside of our concerts, especially moving into the second week of April! The month is chalk full of wine tastings, pairings and dinners, starting with our monthly dinner with Elysabeth Alfano on 4.06. Aprils dinner will also feature  Michelin star chef Ryan McCaskey, who will make the appetizer for this unscripted night of fun! Be sure to also check out the Sparkling Wine dinner on 4.09, which will feature the new Prosecco from Venetian chef Enrica Rocca. Besides these fantastic dinners, you can always find a wine tasting or pairing to attend. Case in point, our RAW cheese and wine pairing with Provenance food on 4.08. You can also find wine tastings throughout the month on 4.15, 17, 22 & 27!

With all of these wonderful events, we hope to see you at at least one this April!

Spring VinoFile Bash!

On Thursday, March 12, City Winery Chicago kicked off the year with our Spring VinoFile Party! Deciding to continue in the format of last December’s event, we invited our treasured VinoFile members to come hang out in the winery, barrel room, and even a little “indoor wine garden” area of the restaurant festooned with planters of wine vines. With a selection of our latest tap wines being unveiled (as well as a couple select bottles from the archives), Winemaker Robert Kowal (@cwvinewhisperer), Barrel Membership Director Aaron Mace, Dan Morgridge and our lovely staff hosted a happy crowd. The kitchen also added some fun treats – Chef Andres Barrera made some light bites and a fantastic cheese and charcuterie spread, while Pasty Chef Angelica Rangel made two lovely cakes to make sure there was something to pair with the free-flowing wine. The demand for glassware was so great that at one point we were pouring Syrah into champagne flutes – truly a unique tasting experience.

We were thrilled to talk to our VinoFile members about their City Winery questions, observations, and experiences – their feedback is what keeps City Winery going! But even more than that, we were delighted to meet all of the guests they brought – from long-time fans themselves to first-timers, industry vets to relatives from the suburbs. And we was honored to hear that they were not only having a great time, but planned on returning with friends of their own.

Our next VinoFile party is planned for a summer patio kick-off – we hope to see all of our new friends and then some in attendance. If you’re not already a VinoFile member and you’re interested…why not join the party? Find out more about VinoFile membership >
