New To The Winery: Barrel Memberships & Custom Labels

In light of celebrating our 1-year anniversary, it’s nice to take a look down memory lane and feel a sense of excitement for what the future holds. It has been a long journey for the winery in preparation for 2015’s Fall harvest. The process entailed ordering fermentation tanks, servicing all of our foreign made equipment, crushing crop from all over the world, to even learning Italian! We feel quite accomplished to have made local Nashville wine.

With that being said, this makes City Winery Nashville a breed of its own. We pride ourselves on offering a unique wine selection and experience to the community. One of our favorite new offerings is our Custom Wine Labels on our bottled wines sold at our retail bar and out and about in Nashville. They pair well with special occasions such as: corporate events, weddings, and anniversaries. Work with our graphic design team to create your own custom label or send us an image you already have in mind.

The second newest opportunity we have is our new barrel membership program. This is a personalized and exclusive program in which you can make and have your own barrel of wine. Work with our winemakers to create, customize, and blend your own barrel of wine and have private tastings to bring it to perfection. The different memberships include things from Vinofile memberships, having creative overlook on the bottling process and labels, invitations to winemaker dinners, and ultimately something to brag to your friends about and more!

We are also now offering mobile tap wine for events, which allows you to drink tap wine straight out of the barrel for your event! As we flourish as an urban winery, we anticipate that we can continue merging innovative experiences with our wines for you to enjoy! City Winery Makes Pollstar’s Top 100 Club Venues List

We are proud to announce that City Winery NYC, Chicago, and Nashville have made it onto Pollstar’s quarterly list of the top 100 Club Venues in the world! NYC came in at 47 and was closely followed by Chicago at 51, while Nashville was ranked 85. Congratulations to all of the venues, and thank you, Pollstar!

Wine Olympics: Let The Games Begin!

Recently in the private events department here at City Winery Nashville, we had the pleasure of hosting our inaugural Wine Olympics. These games grew out of a special request from a corporate client, who wanted to treat their staff to an event that was interactive, team-based, and competitive. They also hoped to foster connections between colleagues who don’t normally interact a lot, so we needed to do something a bit more structured than your typical after-work happy hour. We had some space limitations—so practically speaking, the barrel rolling races and grape stomping were a no-go – but I think that what we created for them was even more fun (and definitely more conducive to business-casual attire)!

Our guests were divided into six countries representing the top wine-producing regions of the world: France, Italy, Spain, United States, Argentina, and Australia. Groups rotated through three wine tasting stations, each staffed with one of City Winery’s talented and passionate sommeliers.  They loved having the opportunity to educate and interact with guests in such a unique way!

First, at the white wine station, guests enjoyed a brief introduction into basic wine descriptors and how we use our senses to taste wine. Teams then worked together to complete a tasting grid straight out of the Certified Sommelier Tasting Exam.

Next came “Drink Like a Somm.” Following an introduction to rose wines, we presented our guests with some mystery roses, along with cards printed with expert tasting notes from our beverage director, Todd. Groups were challenged to match each wine with Todd’s notes. This was harder for some than for others, but everyone seemed to enjoy the challenge!

The red station was a lot of fun too. Here, our somms talked a bit about the differences between Old World and New World reds. We then tasted our guests on a few mystery reds and awarded points for each wine they correctly categorized.

In between tasting stations, groups rotated through three games: a word game called WINE Evolution, a Wine Trivia quiz (this got surprisingly intense), and the Marketing Challenge, where teams were tasked with naming, labeling, and writing copy for one of City Winery’s tap wines. Look for our Pinot Gris to be re-named “Grape Moonschwine,” um, no time soon!

As the wine and competitive juices flowed, it was fun to feel the energy in the room grow and to hear cheers and groans going up around the space as groups scored their final rounds. For the perfect close to the evening, we announced our Bronze, Silver and Gold-winning teams, who were awarded prizes by their company. Of course, there are no losers when great wine is involved!
