City Winery Chicago announces a trio of Halloween shows fitting for the Halloween season. Edgar Winter, whose Top 40 hit “Frankenstein” is a staple of any Halloween party, plays a full band show on October 20. The weekend prior to Halloween, Amy Lowe and KingKatz play a Halloween-themed kids’ matinee on October 24. And on Halloween proper, The Meters’ Leo Nocentelli and P-Funk’s Bernie Worrell play a funky show as The Meters Experience.
The Edgar Winter Band will be playing on Tuesday, October 20. Iconic Texas rock, jazz, blues and pop multi-instrumentalist Edgar Winter (“Free Ride,” “Frankenstein”) is renowned for his own scintillating shows and his riveting collaborations with the likes of Ringo Starr and his All-Starr Band. Winter invented the keyboard body strap which allows him the freedom to move around the stage during his high-energy performances.
The Kids’ Concert Series – Stomp Your Feet to the Jammin’ Beat “Halloween Harvest” is happening on Saturday, October 24. Environmental awareness, neighborhood diversity and the ability of everyone to make his or her own music are just a few of the themes covered in this lively entertaining program of songs and stories for children and all ages. Selections from Parents Choice Award-winning CD’s I Like Gum and Brighter Than Fireflies encourage the audience to clap their hands, stomp their feet and sing along to the jammin beats with Amy Lowe and guitar & drum duo KingKatz (Dave Katzman and Mike Rodbard).
The Meters Experience Halloween Extravaganza is occuring on Saturday, October 31 at 9pm (aka Halloween night!) In the ’60s and ’70s, founding fathers of funk, The Meters, created a unique sound blending funk, blues and dance grooves with a New Orleans vibe. After world tours with The Rolling Stones, the original Meters have been on since hiatus since 2006, but Leo Nocentelli, guitarist and founding member of the original Meters, carries the musical sound on with The Meters Experience, performing such classic hits as “Cissy Strut,” “Fire on the Bayou,” “Hey Pocky A-Way” and “Look-Ka Py Py.” He’s joined by keyboardist and composer Bernie Worrell, founding member of Parliament-Funkadelic and member of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
