On May 11th, City Winery founder and CEO Michael Dorf was inducted into the Manhattan Jewish Historical Association’s Manhattan Jewish Hall of Fame. The first annual ceremony recognized ten inductees as the “Class Of 2017.” Michael is being honored for his notable work in the Manhattan music scene, beginning with opening the seminal Knitting Factory in 1987 and continuing through his work producing charitable tribute concerts at Carnegie Hall. Michael’s charity work has raised over $1.5 million dollars for programs that bring music education to deserving youths. Organizers also saluted Michael for founding both “Tribeca Hebrew,” a downtown after-school program and the Downtown Celebrity Seder, a NYC institution that’s been running for 20+ years.
Those being honored alongside Michael included actress Tovah Feldshuh, Tony Award-winning Broadway producer Daryl Roth, World Champion baseball player Art Shamsky, and former United States Attorney General Michael Mukasey.
The cheerful event was filled with laughs thanks to emcees David Price (NBC news host) and Eleanor Reissa and concluded with a kosher wine sampling courtesy of City Winery!
